Downtown Revitalization Public Meeting

6:00pm at the Academy Hill School

The Town of Wilton and a professional consultant team lead by Wright-Pierce are holding a Public Meeting to review the final draft of the Downtown Revitalization Plan. This meeting will be an opportunity for residents and business owners to hear the recommendations of the Plan, including the implementation strategy and next steps, and ask questions or provide feedback before the Plan is finalized.

The Downtown Revitalization Plan has been developed with guidance from the Wilton Downtown Committee and town staff, informed by public input from previous public meetings and a community-wide survey, and shaped by the consultant team’s recommendations for the Downtown. The Plan outlines the priorities for revitalizing the Downtown, providing a list of recommended actions to address enhancements and public improvements, economic development, and other community development initiatives.

The meeting will feature an informational presentation on the final draft of the Revitalization Plan, with an opportunity to hear feedback and comments from the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Town residents and business owners are urged to participate in this important community development project!

Pultizer Prize winning author reads at the Wilton Public Library

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Barbara Walsh will speak Thursday, April 26, 6:30 p.m. at the Wilton Free Public Library about her new book, August Gale: A Father and Daughter’s Journey. Following her talk, she will sign both August Gale and her children’s book, Sammy in the Sky, which is illustrated by painter Jamie Wyeth. Books will be for sale at the talk.

In August Gale, Walsh—who has interviewed killers, bad cops, and crooked politicians in the course of her career — takes readers on two heartrending odysseys: one into a deadly Newfoundland hurricane and the lives of schooner fishermen who relied on God and the wind to carry them home. The other, into a squall stirred by a man with many secrets: a grandfather who remained a mystery until long after his death.

Sixty-eight years after the hurricane that claimed several of her Marystown ancestors, Walsh searches for memories of the August gale and the grandfather who abandoned her dad as a young boy. Together, she and her father journey to Newfoundlandto learn about the 1935 storm, and along the way her dad begins to talk about the man he cannot forgive.

Maine Maple Syrup Sunday Events in Wilton

Sunday, March 25th is Maine Maple Syrup Sunday. There are five sugarhouses in Wilton participating in the event. The Sugar Houses will be open for tours and will have delicious treats for visitors to sample and purchase. These tours are fun events for the whole family.

The participating Sugar Houses are:

Black Acre Farm on 123 Black Rd., Wilton. They will be open 8am to 4pm and their events will include sugarbush and sap house tours, syrup tasting, maple cotton candy, refreshments, and more. Follow the signs from Rt. 4 in Wilton.

Hall Farm on Rt. 2 in East Dixfield will be having an all you can eat Pancake Breakfast from 8am to 1pm in the old school house and showroom. The adult cost is $8.00, children under age 10 $4.00. Tours will be from 9am to 3pm and will include Sugar House and Farm tours.

Long Drive Acres Maple Farm is located at 319 Temple Rd.(up from East Wilton). They will be open Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Features include tours of their evaporation setup. The showroom will be open with samples of maple syrup on vanilla ice cream, and items like maple cream to sell.

Mystic Valley Maples is on Rt. 2 in East Dixfield. They will be open Saturday, March 24^th and Sunday, March 25^th from 8am to 4pm. The showroom will be open and they will feature maple syrup and other treats.

Sweet Maple Farm is at 391 Weld Rd.(Rt..156 just past the golf course). They will be open 9am to 3pm. They will feature ice cream and pineapple, each with maple syrup, baked beans made with maple syrup, and coffee made with

Town residents and business owners are urged to participate in this important community development project!

The Town of Wiltonand a professional consultant team lead by Wright-Pierce are holding a Public Workshop on the development of a Wilton Downtown Revitalization Plan. Over the next several months, the consultant team will be working with the community to develop ideas, prioritize needs and improvements, and outline economic development strategies for the Downtown. The Downtown Revitalization Plan is funded through a Maine Department of Economic Development Community Block Grant.

During the month of November, surveys were mailed to residents and businesses in the town of Wiltonseeking input on such items as the kinds of businesses and services people would like to see downtown, and whether items such as sidewalk improvements, streetscape amenities, improvements to downtown buildings and properties are important. The return response rate to the surveys was positive and results of the survey will be given at this workshop.

The purpose of this public workshop will be to confirm what the consultant team has learned so far about what citizens and business owners see as both needs and opportunities for the downtown, and what they would like to see for improvements to the downtown. The workshop will feature an informational presentation, results of the survey, and activities to gain feedback from workshop participants. Light refreshments will be provided. This will be the first of two public meetings regarding the Downtown Plan.

Note: This meeting will be rescheduled for January in the event of inclement weather.
