 Town residents and business owners are urged to participate in this important community development project!

The Town of Wiltonand a professional consultant team lead by Wright-Pierce are holding a Public Workshop on the development of a Wilton Downtown Revitalization Plan.  Over the next several months, the consultant team will be working with the community to develop ideas, prioritize needs and improvements, and outline economic development strategies for the Downtown.  The Downtown Revitalization Plan is funded through a Maine Department of Economic Development Community Block Grant.

During the month of November, surveys were mailed to residents and businesses in the town of Wiltonseeking input on such items as the kinds of businesses and services people would like to see downtown, and whether items such as sidewalk improvements, streetscape amenities, improvements to downtown buildings and properties are important.  The return response rate to the surveys was positive and results of the survey will be given at this workshop.

The purpose of this public workshop will be to confirm what the consultant team has learned so far about what citizens and business owners see as both needs and opportunities for the downtown, and what they would like to see for improvements to the downtown.  The workshop will feature an informational presentation, results of the survey, and activities to gain feedback from workshop participants.  Light refreshments will be provided.  This will be the first of two public meetings regarding the Downtown Plan.

Note:  This meeting will be rescheduled for January in the event of inclement weather.

Senator Olympia Snowe’s Washington, DC staff from the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship will be participating in a roundtable to discuss issues affecting the region’s small businesses. The Committee staff will make brief introductory remarks, and the floor will be open for attendees to ask questions and provide thoughts and insights concerning their businesses, the state of the economy, and other relevant matters.

There is no set agenda, and attendees may question the staff on issues as wide-ranging as access to credit, tax policy, health care, government contracting and regulations, entrepreneurship, etc.

The program will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 7:00PM . . . → Read More: Community Value of Parks, Forests and Open Space]]> Wilton residents are invited and encouraged participate in a discussion about municipal conservation commissions and their role in assisting towns to develop open space plans.   Open Space Plans are primarily an inventory and community dialogue about the specific natural resources important to the town.

The program will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 7:00PM at the Wilton Town Office meeting room and facilitated by conservation resources advisor, Marcel Polak.

Marcel Polak is a land conservation consultant who has lived in Woodstock, Maine for over 30 years. Currently he is working for the Maine Association of Conservation Commissions as a Conservation Resources Advisor.

His background includes being a founder and first Executive Director of Mahoosuc Land Trust, and long term chair of the Woodstock Conservation Commission. Marcel received an MS in Natural Resources Management from Antioch New England Graduate School.

Anyone who is interested in how Wilton can enhance their community by conserving its special natural resources is encouraged to attend this meeting.
