The Wilton Group began with a group of residents discussing ways to make Wilton more visible and attractive to new businesses and visitors to our town.
The group took a hiatus in April 2007. We came back together in August 2009 with new members. We have met often since August finishing the organizational work of the group.
In January 2010, the Interim Board of Directors revised the strategic plan under the direction of Mark Hews, formerly of The Threshold to Maine Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Area.
The strategic planning process helped us to identify the external environment in which The Wilton Group must operate and define the internal challenges and opportunities. We have clearly defined our vision and mission statements and currently are refining our goals and objectives for the organization.
In 2011, we started our Think Local First campaign, designed to promote Wilton businesses. One result of the campaign was that we realized we wanted a Directory that could list a wide variety of the goods and services available in Wilton. This led to the development of this new website. Through the generous donation from Barclays, we were able to contract with Steve Milligan to design and implement this website.
Now the web site is up and running and is still very much a work in progress. The goal is to have it be a valuable resource for the community, featuring an Events calendar, as well as all our local businesses, and community organizations.
